The Tonneau Case
Richard Mille’s signature barrel-shaped (tonneau) case isn’t just aesthetic — it’s ergonomic. The curved profile follows the natural contour of the wrist, distributing weight evenly. Most RM cases are machined from a single block of material (titanium, carbon TPT, or ceramic), requiring over 100 hours of CNC machining per case.
Skeletonized Architecture
Nearly every RM movement is skeletonized — bridges and baseplates are hollowed out to reduce weight while maintaining structural rigidity. This is borrowed directly from aerospace engineering, where every gram matters.
NTPT Carbon
Richard Mille pioneered NTPT (North Thin Ply Technology) carbon in watchmaking. This material consists of 600+ layers of carbon fiber, each just 30 microns thick, stacked at 45° angles and cured under extreme heat and pressure. The result is a material that’s lighter than titanium, harder than steel, and displays a unique woodgrain-like pattern — no two watches are identical.

RM 011 — Felipe Massa

Richard Mille’s model numbers follow a simple system:
- RM 0XX: Foundation collection (001-099)
- RM 1X: Complication pieces (flyback chronograph, GMT)
- RM 2X-3X: Special function (diving, aeronautics)

Suffixes indicate materials: “-01” often denotes titanium, “-02” NTPT carbon, etc.
